Every month, some of the top ’search terms’ people use to find this website is ‘Korean guys,’ ‘Korean men,’ ‘naked Korean guys’ or ‘naked Korean men.’ So I thought I’d draw a Korean guy for all you chaps and lasses who come here in seach of one.

I saw the Japanese guy at Central Station in Sydney in ‘08, from the train I was sitting on. I sketched him down; tattoos, ugg boots, dreadlocks, hat etc. Korean girls, contrarily, aren’t usually nasty and cold, and almost never in my experience show their midriff, despite a very high percentage of them having the waist for it. They love high-heeled shoes and Burberry plaid skirts, though. At the time I drew the comic, I was teaching English at a school in Sydney, and I really thought that a lot of the English the students were learning was boring, or not that useful to their life as a young, fun-loving backpacker/student in Australia. One thing which struck me was that in English class (worldwide, not just my old school), the emotion in practice conversations is always ‘happy’. But what if you want to be sarcastic, cynical, bitter etc.? What if some surfer dude comes on to you and you want to brush him off?
Also, Japan and Korea have a somewhat strained relationship still, due to the past. I’ve lived in both countries and it can get awkward when the topic comes up. However, in Australia, Koreans and Japanese seem to get along really well. This comic is sort of metaphorical in that way.
As for the Korean guy; go to any subway station in Seoul and you’ll see him after a few minutes. That look is very popular over there.

Well, it finally happened. Holly Sampson, who was my top search term ever since I posted a comic about her, has been overtaken by Korean Guys:
