Psychoderelict: Part 20
Do San Franciscans really dislike the nickname ‘Frisco’? Aside from sounding like it could be the name of a company that makes cooking oil, it’s a kind of cute little name, isn’t it? The pet name for my own hometown, Sydney, is ‘The Emerald City’, which nobody uses, and which is longer than the original. But it is a pleasant name. What are some other pet names for cities?

Some other Australian city nicknames…
Melbourne: The Rainy City
Adelaide: The City of Churches
Brisbane: Bris Vegas, Australia’s Biggest Country Town
Other international ones I can think of off the top of my head are the Windy City, the Big Apple, the City of Lights, the Eternal City…

Rather like Los Angeles being the City of Angels…
